NFC and QR codes: What’s the difference?
NFC and QR codes both let customers access information, such as a review link, using their phone. The main difference is how the phone reads that information: NFC uses a close-range tap, while a QR code is scanned using the phone’s camera.
How does NFC work?
NFC stands for Near Field Communication. A customer brings a compatible phone close to the NFC tag to read the information stored on it.
For your NFC Product, this means customers can access the saved link by tapping their phone near the tag.
How does a QR code work?
A QR code is a visual code that a customer scans with their phone’s camera to access the linked information. (more steps)
The phone does not need to touch the code. It needs a clear view of the code from a distance that allows the camera to read it.
Quick comparison
| Feature | NFC | QR code |
|---|---|---|
| How it is read | Bring a compatible phone close to the tag | Scan the code with a phone’s camera |
| Phone position | Close to the NFC tag | Pointed at the visible code |
| How customers interact | Tap | Scan |
Both methods make it convenient to access a link. The customer experience differs mainly in whether they tap their phone near a tag or use their camera to scan a code.
