Why Does My Review Link Open in a Browser and Ask for Sign-In?

Why does the link open in a browser?

Your NFC Product stores a web link. When a customer taps it, their phone determines how to open that link based on its settings, installed apps, and how the link is handled.

The link may open in a browser such as Safari or Chrome instead of Google Maps or another Google app. Opening in a browser does not mean your NFC Product was programmed incorrectly.

Why am I asked to sign in when I already use Google?

Being signed in to one app or browser does not always mean you are signed in everywhere on your phone.

For example, you may be signed in to Google in Chrome, but your review link opens in Safari. If Safari does not have an active Google sign-in, Google may ask you to sign in there.

Google requires customers to sign in to a Google Account before submitting a review.

How can I continue to the review page?

You can sign in to your Google Account in the browser that opened the review link, then continue with your review.

Alternatively, copy the review link and open it in a browser where you are already signed in to Google. Changing your phone’s default browser is optional.

How do I change my default browser?

If you prefer web links to open in the browser you normally use, update your default browser setting.

On iPhone

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Select Apps.

  3. Select Default Apps.

  4. Select Browser App.

  5. Choose your preferred browser.

These steps apply to current iOS versions. Older versions may show “Default Browser App” within the individual browser’s settings.

On Android

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Select Apps.

  3. Select Default apps or Choose default apps.

  4. Select Browser app.

  5. Choose your preferred browser.

The wording may vary by phone manufacturer and software version.

Will changing browsers remove the sign-in requirement?

No. Choosing a browser where you already have an active Google sign-in may avoid an additional prompt, but Google can still require authentication.

Changing your default browser also does not guarantee that the link will open in Google Maps. Review Zaps cannot force a particular app to open or bypass Google’s sign-in requirements.

Do I need to reprogram my NFC Product?

A browser sign-in prompt alone is not a reason to erase or reprogram your product. First, sign in and check whether the link leads to the correct business review page.

If it opens the wrong business or displays an error, email support@reviewzaps.com with your phone model, the browser that opens, and a screenshot of the issue.
