Why Does My NFC Product Work Sometimes but Not Others?
Why does scanning sometimes fail?
If your Review⚡️Zaps Card or Stand works on some attempts but not others, the most common cause is the phone’s NFC antenna not being lined up directly with the tag.
NFC works only at very close range, and the exact antenna location varies by phone model.
Before changing the link saved on your product, try the steps below.
1. Find the Correct NFC Tap Spot for Your Phone
Instead of guessing where the NFC reader is located, use our free:
NFC Tap Spot Finder
Search your exact phone model and the tool will show you the recommended NFC tap location.
Then:
- Wake and unlock your phone
- Position the NFC area of the phone directly over your Review⚡️Zaps Card or Stand
- Hold the phone steady for a moment
- Avoid quickly swiping the phone across the product
A missed scan often simply means the phone’s NFC antenna was not aligned with the tag.
2. Wake and Unlock the Phone
Turn on the screen and unlock the phone before trying again.
This gives you a consistent starting point when troubleshooting.
On supported iPhones, NFC reading may be unavailable while certain features are active, including:
- Camera
- Apple Pay
- Airplane Mode
- Before the first unlock after restarting the phone
Close the camera or payment screen, turn off Airplane Mode, unlock the phone, and try again.
3. Check That NFC Is Enabled
On Android, search for NFC in Settings and make sure it is turned on.
If you cannot find an NFC setting, check the phone manufacturer’s specifications to confirm that the model supports NFC tag reading.
Supported iPhones handle background NFC reading automatically and normally do not have a separate NFC on/off switch.
4. Confirm the Phone Supports NFC Tag Reading
Not every smartphone supports NFC in the same way.
Recent iPhones generally support background NFC tag reading automatically.
Android support varies by manufacturer and model.

5. Try Another Compatible Phone
Test the Review⚡️Zaps Product with another NFC-compatible phone.
- If it works consistently on the second phone, the first phone’s settings or tap position are likely the issue.
- If neither phone detects the tag, contact us so we can help investigate further.
What if the phone detects the tag but the review page does not open?
If a notification or link appears, the phone has successfully read the NFC tag.
Tap the notification if prompted.
If the wrong page opens or the Google review page does not load, check the saved link.
You can generate and test a fresh review link using our free:
Google Review Link Generator
Search your business, select the correct location, and click TEST MY LINK before reprogramming the NFC Product.
